Michael “Shorty” Powers, President
403 Pacific, Terrell, TX 75160 Shorty is the founder and President of Turning Point. Since 1979 Turning Point has provided innovative services to people with physical challenges. Turning Point has grown from a small group of sportsmen and women into an organization with multiple activities and chapters. Shorty was the recipient of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commissioner’s Award for 1998. He was selected to represent disability interests on the National Board of the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation. In 2004 he was inducted into the Texas Parks and Wildlife Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame, the only person with a physical challenge to receive this honor.
Peter DeCleva, Treasurer
4210 Rosser Square., Dallas, Texas 75244 Peter graduated from the University of North Texas with a BBA in Real Estate, and works in his family real estate and oil and gas investment business. He has been a participant and volunteer with Turning Point since 1983.
Jack Hopkins, Vice-President
2003 Hearthstone, Carrollton, TX 75010 Jack is the President/CEO of Million Air. He has been with Million Air since its inception in 1984. Under his direction Million Air has become an international franchise company, and a model for many similar ventures. His efforts have been recognized by the awarding of prestigious national certifications to Million Air Dallas. He has served on the Turning Point Board of Directors since 2003.
Wayne Leavitt 1756 Castille Drive, Carrollton, TX 75007972-416-7774 (work) Wayne owns and manages Mobility Medical Equipment, a company that rents and sell durable medical eqiupment, as well as custom rehabilitation equipment. He has played wheelchair tennis in over 20 states and Puerto Rico and Canada; and is the only player in the United States to play in and attend every U.S. Open for the last 25 years. He has won numerous awards in the Open Division and now Senior Division. Wayne is married and his hobbies include handcycling, swimming, watching sports on TV and attending local sports.wayne is a new 2007 Board Member of Turning Point. Danny Scarth
505 High Woods, Ft. Worth, TX 76112 Danny holds a BA from Texas Christian University. Danny is a member of the City Council of the City of Fort Worth. He is the executive director of Hope Media, a video production and media services organization. He currently serves on the Board for Score A Goal in the Classroom. He has served on the City of Fort Worth facilities Master Plan Committee and the Gas Drilling Task Force. Danny has been a participant and Board Member of Turning Point since 1994.
Kent Waldrep
135 Shawnee Trail, Celina, TX 75009 Kent is the founder of the American Paralysis Foundation, The Kent Waldrep National Paralysis Foundation, and was instrumental in forming the Kent Waldrep Foundation Center for Basic Neuroscience Research with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He was a Reagan appointee to the National Council on Disability, where he served as Vice-Chair and helped draft the Americans with Disabilities Act. He is a noted speaker and has received coverage in numerous publications and on national television. Tom Wright

972-240-8839 (work) Tom has been a well respected member of NMEDA for over 16 years. His company, Wright Way Inc. has provided safe and reliable mobility conversions for over 50 years. Tom Wright's reputation is based on ethics, personal responsibility and integrity. His company is a reflection of his personal code. Tom has served on numerous advisory committees for Ford, Chrysler and GM.
Six of the seven members of the Turning Point Board of Directors have a physical challenge. These include quadraplegia and paraplegia. Our Board of Directors is one member short due to the loss of our long time friend, member and volunteer, Carol Barrett. |
